The Dining Room Makeover

When I first bought this dining room set last fall I knew it needed a change.
A $200 awesome Kijiji deal - the dining room table, six chairs and the china cabinet.
To say the least, they were a little run-down and dirty.
So this month, I went to work with some Annie Sloan Old White chalk paint and new fabric to cover the seat pads.

At this point, I have just painted the chairs.
I am still determining if I want to paint the table and/or the china cabinet.
I lean more toward the china cabinet, I would paint it with the matching colour
and replace the glass windows with chicken wire.

Have a look at the before.

Just as lovely in the "Before" state, to be sure.  But just in need of some updating.

You will notice something placed on the seat.
They are the nails for the pads, I have still yet to do the reupholstering.  I will be getting to that shortly.

A few changes I made with the vintage china cabinet, I swapped out the grapevine wreath
with the cream coloured Gothic style mirror.
If anything, it just adds to the colour palette.

I am loving how bright this small change has made to this room.

  1. I really like the chairs painted white. They look great! Your whole dining room looks lovely Diane.

  2. It looks great. I like your ideas for the hutch too. If you were to do the table, my suggestion would be to paint the skirt and legs and leave the top as is for some contrast especially if the top is in good shape.

  3. Oh how pretty and what a calm feeling! The hutch would be awfully pretty painted as well!

  4. Love the chairs painted, and I agree with Marsha, paint the apron and legs of the table and leave the top wood. If it were all white it would look like it is floating. A few stained pieces give the room warmth and grounding. That's just me.......

  5. I love it! I think the hutch with chicken wire would be fantastic :)
