Preparing for Thanksgiving

Just a quick post today.
Doing a little preparing for my Thanksgiving dinner this coming weekend.
A few weeks ago I mentioned that family
were gathering at my house for the holiday weekend.

Before....

My dining table would just not be cutting the mustard for a seating of 8.
I looked at buying tables off kijiji, but didn't find anything I liked.
Truth be told, I just didn't feel like or wanted to buy something at this moment.
So I went to my local furniture rental place and rented a dining room set for a few weeks.

Clever idea I thought.
The table is very small, only will seat 6 so don't know where to put the other two.
Will think of something I am sure.

Now to set the table.....which should I choose?
I am trying to decide if I want to use the red dishes or the ivory.

I like the ivory more, but can't seem to find the other box with another 4 placesetting.
I thought I put it in a cupboard when I moved in here last May.....guess I didn't.
So I may have a look at what Walmart has.
I am thinking the red is too Christmasy.

As you can see I just started to put stuff out on the table.
Have the water goblets out, but not yet the wine.
Nor is any of the cutlery out.  Or much of anything else come to think of it!

When I have it all done up, I will do a Thanksgiving tablescape post.

  1. Diane - what a great idea it was for you to rent the table...I love the ivory dishes, but like the red as well...Have you thought to mix and match - the red dinner plates with the ivory salad plates...you could even do 4 ivory dinner plates with the red salad plates and 4 red dinner plates with ivory salad plates...any combination would work

    Have a great Thanksgiving!

  2. Hi Diane,

Ingenious idea regarding the rented table; anything to make everyone more comfortable! LOVE the ivory dish combination with your beautiful autumnal coloured napkins - fresh and crisp from the white, but warm and welcoming due to the napkins!

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  4. What a great idea to rent a dining set but it's too bad it's a bit small for you needs. Can you add a card table at the end? I've done that before. I must say that I like the ivory dishes best. I hope you find the rest of them or something to go with them. I was figuring out what I need for dinner etc. as ours is on Saturday. I hope all works out for you and that you have a happy thanksgiving!

  5. I like the ivory too, maybe put red at the heads of table and ivory on the side to mix it up? Great idea too renting a table, I never would have thought to do that!

  6. We have a table perfectly proportioned to our little cottage. But having company makes it very tight at the table. My husband made a table top to place on the table so we can go from 4 comfortably to 10 comfortably and we have even had 13 for Thanksgiving dinner.

Is Thanksgiving in Canada a different date than in the US?
