My children are home for the long weekend.
So I put together a red and white tablescape to celebrate our nation's confederation.
When daughter arrived yesterday, she was very excited to be home for the upcoming weekend.
She wanted to have our Canada Day dinner that very evening.
We ended up having our celebration dinner this evening instead.
Tomorrow night, Canada Day, we will have a simple BBQ and head out to see the fireworks.
I served casear salad in the bowls.
I was going to have soup, but no one wanted it....so salad it was.
On the menu was scalloped potatoes, ham and a veggie.
Served with a dinner roll and white wine.
For dessert, we had Canada Day cupcakes. Will get out a pic soon, they turned out really cute!
Pretty much the minute the kids walk through the door, life gets really busy.
As most of you know, I live in a Canada/US boarder town.
This morning we crossed the boarder to do a little bit of shopping.
My daughter's favorite store is Kohl's, and whenever she is home she likes to hit up her store.
I pretty much go along for the ride.
So exciting, we are celebrating Canada Day here and the States are preparing for their Independence Day.
Lots of activity on both sides of the boarder.
I had the potatoes prepared this morning, and as soon as we walked in the door, I put them in the oven.
We sat down a little late for dinner, but who eats at 5:00 anymore anyway!
I set the table with a pretty battenburg lace tablecloth I bought during our year we lived out west.
Layered red and white dishes.
Both sets of dishes were bought at Walmart a couple years back.
Wine glasses came from HomeSense (HomeGoods in the US).
The maple leaf napkins are actually bandanas.
For a centrepiece, I took a candle lantern and filed it with some twig balls and red potpourri.
We are having an excellent weekend. Busy and excellent!
To all my fellow Canadians, have a safe and great July 1 long weekend.
To my USA neighbours, have a great Independence Day holiday on the 4th of July.
Happy Canada Day!
