House of the Month

Langdon Hall

Come tour with me one of the grandest houses this part of Canada.
Langdon Hall, an incredibly beautiful mansion located in Cambridge, Ontario.

Built in 1902 by wealthy American Eugene Langdon Wilks.
To be used as a summer residence.
The family had two other homes - New York City and France.

Truly breathtaking house.

Langdon died in 1934, and just before WWII erupted his widowed wife and their three children fled to Canada and took up permanent residence at Langdon Hall.

Foyer, Langdon Hall

In 1987 the property was purchased by architect, William Bennett and Mary Beaton and renovations begun.
A year and a half later, Langdon Hall Inn opened its doors to guests.

The Whispering Room, Langdon Hall

In The Whispering Room, the ladies would gather after dinner to chat, only they would have to whisper so they would not be heard by the gentlemen in the next room!
The portrait above the fireplace is Catherine Wilks, the last daughter of Langdon, she and her husband lived there until 1980.

Sun Room, Langdon Hall

This stunning Inn has seen some famous faces as guest.
Most recently the entire cast of the movie "Red".
Dame Helen Mirren, Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Mary-Louise Parker.
They filmed next door at Cruickston Park, a private residence mansion....sorry was unable to get pics!

Guest Room, Langdon Hall

Even though I would dream of staying a night at this $649 a night, 5star hotel, my financial budget only ever allows me The Best Western!

But I so appreciated the tour of the stunning mansion and the grounds.

At the time of our tour, all the rooms were booked save this one.

Back terrace, Langdon Hall

I am hoping to return closer to Christmas and take pics then.....won't it be glorious!

Daughter Rachel looking pretty relaxed as she takes a break.
Doesn't she look like she was born into luxury!

Me, well I just didn't want to leave!

Langdon Hall

A special thank you to Jessica our tour guide.

  5. Oh my goodness that looks exactly like a family resort we used to go to a few years back! It was in Mass. however. The inside shots are beautiful!
