Picture frame re-do

Do you remember I bought this picture a few weeks ago?
Artist, Trisha Romance print - $20 at GW.

BEFORE

AFTER

Kinda turned out pretty didn't it!

I took it into Michael's to replace the mat to an off white colour.
No big savings there.  I though they would take my 40% off coupon....nope.
Had to pay full price...wasn't too happy about that.

I spray painted the frame white.

To give it a little antique colour, I stained it twice, and wiped off the access liquid after each coat.

And now I just have to find a place to hang it.

  1. I like this so much better Diane. I wonder if it would be easy to spray paint picture mats too? Maybe next time try it and if it doesn't work make the purchase of a new one. The white sure made a huge difference. Pamela

  3. The frame turned out very nice, too bad you couldn't use your coupon at Michaels.

  4. I have many times updated mating with spray paint or craft paint. The one time I had one professionally changed was when I found out my large signed and numbered print in a beautiful frame I paid $20 for at Goodwill was worth $450 unframed!!!!. I paid $20 to have the "dusty rose" mat changed to cream. It has proudly hung above my bead for years now.

  5. That is lovely - I did something similar in my linked post too. Also, I ran into the same problem with you at Michaels when wanting just to change out a mat. At Joanns, if you change both the mat and the glass, then you can use their % off coupons. So I actually got new glass and mat at Joanns for less than the quoted price of the mat at Michaels.

  6. I love Trisha Romance! My hubby bought me a beautiful print of hers right after I had our 2nd daughter. It is proudly hung in our family room. Your 'new' frame looks great! I recently had two pics reframed at Michael's and was blown away by how expensive it was (even with a 75% off coupon, it was $650 for two!!!!). Crazy! Wish there was a Hobby Lobby in Canada....they are less expensive and have great stuff!
